    Durham City Incubator

If you have a Durham-based business that’s been trading less than twelve months or you’re looking to launch a potential high-growth start-up, you and your team can join the Durham City Incubator (DCI) – a six-month fully-funded programme to help you grow your business.

The DCI’s six-month programme enables founders of new growth ventures to test their business model or concept, learn new business skills and tactical techniques, connect to the wider business ecosystem and grow their business into a commercial success.

The DCI is open to any ambitious business owners in Durham with the vision to scale up their business. DCI particularly encourages graduate and post graduate talent from Durham University and New College Durham to apply.

    DCI Offer:

DCI provides a broad package of support to help your new business venture thrive, including:
    • shared workspace in Salvus House, Durham
    • expert mentoring
    • one-to-one support
    • workshops
    • networking and events
    • access to specialist consultants
    • collaboration with other like-minded entrepreneurs
    • a start-up grant of £2,500 to spend on growing your business.

We can connect you to further investment with the option of an innovation loan of up to £7,500 provided by Northstar Ventures, a leading early stage investor.

“I would strongly encourage anyone starting a business in County Durham to apply for the DCI. It provides vital support at a time when it’s make or break for a start-up. There’s no question ChatPro would not be where it is now without DCI. When you pitch, my advice would be to emphasise your ambition and the scalability of your business idea (think big). When you get a place, make the most of it. The programme is only 6-months but if you use the resources available, you can make decisive progress in that time.”

Quote from Harry, founder of ChatPro (DCI Cohort 3)

Durham City Incubator (DCI) is a joint venture between Durham County Council (DCC), Durham University (DU) and New College Durham (NCD). DCI has been developed as part of a wider drive to grow the Durham City economy and to offer Durham University graduates and New College Durham student’s high-quality facilities and business support to grow their ventures in Durham City.
