    Northumbrian Water Innovation Festival
The ‘Brilliant Get-Together’ is taking place between 18 – 21 October and is set to be the perfect blend of traditional festival fun mixed with a digital twist.

Northumbrian Water’s Innovation Festival is the mashing together of innovation techniques like design thinking and data hacks with a British Summer Festival. It started in 2017 and has grown over the course of the last four years. The festival has essentially become our idea generation engine, but it is so much more than that. We also use it to make rapid progress on ideas that span organisational boundaries – a “years’ worth of work in a week”. Our partners also tell us that it is great for networking because we bring together so many people from so many organisations. Last, but by no means least, it is a lot of fun.

Innovators from across the globe will be joining forces with us on virtual sprints, hacks and dashes aimed at solving real world issues and big societal problems.

This year a new hybrid format will see a mix of both physical and virtual events including celebrity lightning talks, networking events, live tech demos, music, comedy and much more!

How can we apply satellite technology in novel ways to address key challenges for utilities and local authorities, in an affordable way?

Earth observation data and satellite technology is being used for an ever increasing range of applications a such as large asset (dam) monitoring, encroachment, leakage detection and ground movement. But lesser known and emerging satellite capabilities, combined with innovative complementary technologies, are unlocking a number of real world applications currently not being exploited.

Though use of satellite imagery is believed by some to be either prohibitively expensive or of too low resolution to be of any use – the market has undergone significant changes over the past few years that mean this is not always the case. And whilst funding is available to support the development of new ideas, to create truly sustainable and scalable solutions that create high impact and value to government and private sector, we need to make sure we are identifying the right problems to solve from the outset, and are involving the right people.
