Exemplar Health Care, a leading provider of specialist nursing care for adults living with complex needs, has begun on-site construction for its new £7.9m specialist care home in Bishop Auckland, County Durham. The home was delivered by Yorkshire-based S&SA architects and contractor Walter Thompson.
Construction started at the new home in June 2023 and, once complete, will be called Laurel Place. The home will support adults living with acquired brain injuries, complex mental health needs, and physical disabilities, providing community care to adults who would otherwise have a pro-longed stay in hospital.
The home will be split into three communities – as small group living provides a more homely, supportive, and responsive care environment – and each of the 32 bedrooms will have its own ensuite wet room. Additionally, the home will feature six apartments, split across the three communities, which are specially designed for adults who are ready to live more independently, while also knowing that specialist healthcare support remains available around the clock.
The home will also have communal dining and living spaces, sensory bathrooms, an activities hub, a large accessible garden, and a dedicated therapy room offering holistic therapeutic care and support led by the in-home Physiotherapist and Occupational Therapist.
Laurel Place is set to open in Summer 2024 and will create over 100 new healthcare jobs in the local area, including Health Care Assistants, Registered Nurses, Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists. Recruitment is due to start this summer, and candidates can register their interest online at: https://www.exemplarhc.com/care-homes/laurel-place
