Much-needed good news in grim times sees Durham Cathedral awarded £812,200 in a new round of Culture Recovery Fund money which has been hailed as the ‘greatest possible gift’.
The cathedral is one of around 140 heritage sites to receive a share of a third round of payments from the Government pot designed to help them recover from the ongoing impact of the pandemic.
At a time the news is dominated by escalating cases of the Omicron variant, the announcement brings a big boost for the city landmark and will help safeguard the building, assisting with running costs and its historic collections.
