Durham leisure centre reopens following “ambitious” refurbishment programme

Durham County Council reopened Abbey Leisure Centre yesterday, Monday July 24, after being temporarily closed to allow for refurbishment works.

The leisure centre features revamped gym and fitness studios with over 80 pieces of the latest Technogym equipment, which include new screens to help guide people’s fitness and form. The studios will have a purpose-built group cycling experience where members can take part in a personally tracked session, a virtual class, or a FreeBeats instructor-led class.

There will also be a multi-use studio which will host a range of other fitness classes. A new community Move Hub has also been created inside the centre, the first of its kind to be included in the council’s sites, with power-assisted equipment for residents who need help to become active or are recovering from health conditions.
