Plans for a huge student accommodation scheme in Durham, comprising more than 800 bedrooms, look set to progress.
Banks Group is behind the development, which includes up to 850 bedrooms on a 7.8-acre site north of Mount Oswald at South Road.
The developer had, in 2018, secured outline consent for the project, however this was not implemented within the prescribed time limit.
An applicant’s statement added that, since the original consent was granted, and following the Covid-19 pandemic, the need for student accommodation in the city has increased, adding: “Durham witnessed unfortunate scenes last year with students camping out to secure scarce accommodation.”
