Plans for affordable homes in County Durham have been approved, with the scheme claimed to be the first development utilising the Natural England nutrient neutrality credit system.

The credits allowed the development to advance through planning and ensure that any impact to waterways from the scheme were fully mitigated by the long-term protection of an area of wild grassland nearby in Durham.

Adderstone Living will now progress with the 23-home project, which comprises a mix of two, three and four bedroom properties with social housing provider North Star Housing Group.
