Plans have been submitted to build a carbon capture and research and development facility in County Durham, in a project that will be “one of the first of its kind in the world”.

The facility is earmarked for a 2.3 acre-site on Mill Hill at North West Industrial Estate in Peterlee.

Carbon capture is a process which removes the nitrous oxide from flue gasses, before removing the carbon dioxide from the remaining gasses.
