Work underway on Durham student accommodation scheme

A development to enhance a 358-bedroom student accommodation block in Durham is progressing.

Unite Students has commenced work on Rushford Court, in partnership with Durham University, which will become the temporary home of the university’s College of St Bede from September 2024 while the proposed redevelopment of the university’s Leazes Road site takes place.

In the longer term, the establishment wants to create a new 18th college at Rushford Court.

The construction which is now underway includes a two-storey amenity building which will house a junior common room with café, bar and social space, alongside student space.
