Lee White’s electrical engineering company, Bespoke Electrical, has doubled its headcount and won new business worth £30,000 in the space of a year after receiving support from the Durham Business Opportunities Programme (DBOP), who are managed by Business Durham.
Lee explained that he believes his success is down to Bespoke exhibiting in the Incubator Zone, a support programme to help micro and small businesses prepare to exhibit for the first time at EMCON, the engineering and manufacturing conference that takes place every October at the xCel Centre in Newton Aycliffe.
Bespoke, who grew from two staff to four in the space of 12 months as part of enrolling on the DBOP led Incubator Zone support programme received support to create banner stands and brochures to ensure that his business was prepared to make the most from exhibiting at the conference.
The Bespoke team also attended a one day workshop to prepare them for the event including tips on developing a winning pitch and a stand presentation. Lee explained: “The business was only three weeks old when we went to EMCON. The DBOP team gave us great support – helping us get the stand together and to create marketing materials.
“At the show itself we picked up three or four really good leads that have led to some big projects and ultimately allowed us to grow. We returned again the following year as it was so good for exposure.”
