Classic Lifts is a well-established and independently owned business operating for over thirty years. They provide a full range of services including the design, installation, service, repair, modernisation and refurbishment of all types of passenger, goods and platform lifts.
The headquarters of Classic Lifts is in Sheffield. The branch here in the North East moved into Tanfield Lea Business Centre in 2019. The business has other branches across the UK in Haydock, London and the Midlands.
Tanfield Lea Business Centre is managed by Business Durham, the economic development arm of Durham County Council. The modern business centre offers forty one fully serviced offices from 135 – 1,787 sq ft. It is positioned close to the A692, A693 and A1(M), providing easy access to the North East and wider UK.
Since expanding to Tanfield Lea Business Centre, the company has won several contracts worth a total of in excess of £2million. The most notable of these being the replacement of thirteen lifts at Byker Wall worth £1.5m. Replacement of two lifts for Durham University, and four lifts in Newcastle.
Classic Lifts work on collaborative community projects to develop the skills of the next generation of engineers, for example they have recently donated old lift equipment to nearby Derwentside College to provide students with the opportunity to complete practical engineering tasks as part of their education.
In addition to this, the lift specialists have employed two full time apprentices from the college with regular visits from Regional Director Scott Broadley and his team to provide their expertise to students.
Scott said: “We’re passionate about developing the next generation of engineers. By investing in apprenticeships today we believe that we’re contributing to the skilled workforce of tomorrow not only for Classic Lifts but for the communities in which we serve.”
Julie Jennings, Business Durham Property Manager for the North of County Durham said: “Tanfield is a modern business centre with a central North East location, but without the city centre congestion.
The tenants have 24-hour access and ample free car parking, something that is valued by many of the businesses based here.
It has been challenging times for everyone in 2020, however we have adapted to ensure that the business centre is a COVID safe environment for tenants and we continue to work closely with colleagues at Durham County Council and Public Health England to retain these standards.”
Scott added “The help we received from the management team at Tanfield when we moved into our new offices was exceptional, they are approachable, friendly and extremely helpful, never more so than during the challenging times of 2020, they have done everything possible to create a safe working environment.
The business centre itself has a great ambiance, it is competitively priced, we have access to meeting rooms and postal services, plus access to business support via Business Durham which is a real plus. We look forward to growing our business at Tanfield Lea Business Centre for many years to come.”
