Award-winning company, Concept IT Services, is taking on more staff following significant growth over the past few years.
Concept IT, which is based at Business Durham’s Tanfield Lea Business Centre in County Durham, has seen its turnover increase by 25 per cent in the last 12 months on the back of 23 per cent growth the previous year. The growth has led to more staff and an expansion in services to increase its capability.
Concept IT was set up by Kevin Embleton in 2005, who wanted to provide fully managed, ethical and professional IT support services for small to medium sized businesses across the North East.
He said: “We’ve always had high standards and this has led to the firm achieving a number of ISO accreditations.
“We work for various businesses across various sectors, including manufacturing, finance, transport and other process-driven sectors.”
The premises at Tanfield Lea have provided the perfect, modern office spaces for the company to expand, with its 24-hour accessed offices, air-conditioned meeting room facilities, free onsite parking, communal kitchen areas and a shower on site.
The company, which moved to Tanfield in 2012, has recently increased its international services and its Cloud platform in readiness for growth. It expects to take on another three staff members as a result.
Concept IT has assisted in delivering projects on behalf of Digital Drive Durham, which is supported by Business Durham, and secured a £200,000 project to help rural areas have access to faster broadband following an introduction made by Business Durham.
Kevin said: “The staff at Business Durham have created a community here and they encourage small companies to mix with each other. They’re more than just a landlord. Because they’re part of Durham County Council they can help signpost you to the right people and we’ve certainly benefitted from that.”
Kevin said his team has been busier than ever during the COVID-19 lockdown, supporting 847 workers as they moved their workstations to their homes. Many of them are working in key sectors during the lockdown, such as health care.
“We have quite a range of businesses that rely on us for support to function. We’ve been really busy supporting them. Our turnover for March is up by 38 per cent compared with a typical month,” Kevin added.
The business was the only North East company to be named as one of Europe’s premier Managed IT Service Providers (MSP) in the inaugural Channel Futures European Partners 51 – EP51 rankings. It was also shortlisted in the Best Service Desk Customer Experience category in the Service Desk Institute’s IT Service & Support Awards 2020.

We want to help as many local firms as we can and thanks to our growing reputation for quality and excellence, we are well on our way to achieving our goal.”
Tanfield Lea Business Centre houses 41, 24-hour accessed offices with sizes ranging from 12 sq metres to 166 sq metres.
