    You could say they’re a team in touch with their emotions – and for more than two decades they’ve supported CEOs, business owners, entrepreneurs and MDs to lead their people and businesses to higher performance and success.

    The Emotional Intelligence Company, based in Aycliffe Business Park, equips businesses with the skills and certifications to deliver emotional intelligence training and boasts a roster of regional, national and international clients, including Hitachi Rail Europe, AlixPartners and BAE Systems.

    And it’s proving quite the North East success story, having won an international contract to deliver leadership coaching with 180 global leaders – the biggest contract in the business’s history with confirmation this contract is being extended a further 12 months to 2020.

    Following a rebrand this year, The Emotional Intelligence Company has been operating as a stand-alone brand, complementing the coaching and training delivery arm of the business, High Impact Development Ltd.

    With its new brand identity relatively unknown in the North East, the team exhibited as The Emotional Intelligence company at The Durham Business Opportunities Programme (DBOP) Incubator Zone at EMCON with the goal of promoting that part of the business in the region.

    The Incubator Zone was the second intensive strand of support delivered through DBOP which is funded through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and is part of Business Durham. As part of its support package, DBOP delivered a workshop to enable businesses to make the most of the exhibition as well has helpful hints and tips on following leads. Incubator Zone exhibitors also benefited from bespoke marketing materials which further enhanced the package of support.

    Founder Gary Hosey said: “Due to the nature of our business and the longer buying journey for our services, it’s so important to make new connections and nurture relationships so when businesses need our services, they’re already familiar with the brand.

    “That’s why events like EMCON are so important – to help us build the profile of the Emotional Intelligence Company’s new brand.

    “The event was of huge benefit and we’re waiting to hear back on a number of tenders from the new contacts we made.”

    And the support from the DBOP team continued after EMCON. Engagement officer Lisa Wall introduced the company to the Digital Drive Programme.

    Now the Emotional Intelligence Company is part way through a project to update and enhance its online presence including its website and social media platforms – all of which is fully funded.

    With another successful year under its belt and demand for its services surging, the company has just employed an apprentice and expects even further growth in the future.

    Lisa Wall said: “We have been working with Gary and his team for some time to help them identify opportunities for the business.  We directed them to the support we offered for companies exhibiting for the first time at EMCON in the Incubator Zone.  The company benefited from advice before the event, the DBOP teamed also helped on the day and with following up enquiries after the conference.

    “Following EMCON we have continued to offer advice and identified the Digital Drive Programme as additional support they could access.

    “Emotional Intelligence are a fantastic example of the type of growing company that DBOP is able to help we look forward to continuing to work with them to identify new opportunities.”
