Support from the Durham Business Opportunities Programme (DBOP)*
In March 2019 the business enrolled on the Durham Business Opportunities Programme “Routes to Contract Success” business support programme. The programme is designed to provide County Durham businesses with the skills they need to win more public and private sector procurement contracts.
The support was delivered by bid writing experts B2B North who have collectively helped their clients secure over £388 million in contract value. B2B associate director Andrew Wilson delivered two days of intensive support helping Premier prepare for and write quality responses for a two-year Traffic Management Services contract with Redcar and Cleveland Council.
This support process involved interviews with the Premier Team to shape the best possible response to the quality section of the tender application, worth 50% of the total evaluation.
B2B undertook a full review of standard operating procedures including recent experience in delivering public sector contracts to comprehensively demonstrate how Premier would fulfil the requirements of the contract including their methodology, knowledge, competence and communications strategy.
Outcomes and impacts
As a result of this review and support from the DBOP “Routes to Contract Success” programme successfully assisted the team at Premier Traffic Management to win a contract with Redcar and Cleveland Council over two years.
Despite the challenges posed in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic Premier have increased their total headcount taking on an additional four members of staff to enable them to fulfil their contracted work including newly appointed Operations Director Matthew Turner.
Matthew said: “The support we received from DBOP was paramount to us securing the new contract with Redcar and Cleveland Council. The programme really helped the team to evaluate and demonstrate our key strengths and capabilities against the crucial objectives of the tender document. After winning the contract we even landed additional COVID-19 related work with Redcar and Cleveland Council, which more than likely would not have happened without the support of DBOP.”
What does the future hold for Premier Traffic Management?
Premier have just completed a rebranding exercise, procured a brand-new fleet of state-of-the-art vehicles and produced a suite of new photography to support their continued expansion and growth.
Following the support from DBOP, Matthew and the team at Premier have established links with Business Durham’s key account management team who oversee support for larger businesses in the County.
Business Development Officer for DBOP Guy Bashford explains: “Many of the businesses that take part in our DBOP support programmes haven’t engaged with Business Durham previously. Part of the role of the DBOP programme is to link businesses with Business Durham so that we can forge long term partnerships, providing continued support when needed to accelerate growth, develop long term sustainability and in the current climate navigate the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Business Durham look forward to working with Matthew and the team both now and in the future.”
Andrew Wilson from B2B North added: “The team at B2B bring a wealth of experience helping businesses win more work, to date this equates to over £388m in contract value. Personally, it was a pleasure to work with Premier and I was delighted to learn they secured the contract with Redcar and Cleveland Council. Following the success of the programme we are delighted to work with DBOP again to deliver another programme of support DBOP Construction – Routes to Contract Success and look forward to helping more County Durham businesses win more work.”
