Caddick Expands North East Presence with New Student Resi Contract

Caddick Construction has been awarded a £25m design and build contract to deliver a new purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) scheme in Durham, further strengthening its growing portfolio in the region.

The appointment will see Caddick build the 232-bed Melbury Court off Old Dryburn Way on behalf of Whitesmocks Limited. The development will comprise modern, purpose-built living spaces designed to meet demand for student accommodation in the city.

In addition to the residential space, the scheme will incorporate new landscaping to enhance the surrounding environment and create an attractive, accessible setting.

Due to complete in summer 2027 ahead of the 2027/28 academic year, the development will support both Durham’s growing student population and the wider local economy.

The appointment to Melbury Court comes a year after Caddick launched its Durham office and builds on its work in the county. This also includes a BREEAM Excellent distribution centre for DPD at Richardson Barberry’s Forrest Park development at Newton Aycliffe.

Steve Ford, Regional Managing Director of Caddick Construction North East & Yorkshire, commented:

“We’re proud to be expanding our presence in Durham with our appointment to deliver this new student accommodation development. The scheme at Melbury Court represents a significant investment in high-quality student accommodation and demonstrates continued confidence in the city’s thriving higher education sector. We look forward to working collaboratively with our partners to deliver a best-in-class scheme that will serve students for years to come.”

Caddick is a registered partner with the Considerate Constructors Scheme (CCS) and is dedicated to raising standards across its business and sites.

Throughout building work, Caddick will deliver a tailored employment and skills plan as part of the project. This is set to include local training and employment, as well as support for local educators and community causes through volunteering and fundraising initiatives.
