A year ago, a bold idea landed just outside the historic heart of Durham. To turn recycled shipping containers into luxury lodge escapes that felt both stylish and surprisingly peaceful.
Twelve months later, Unbox Poplar Lodges in Shincliffe Village Durham, has welcomed couples celebrating anniversaries, families exploring the North East, university visitors, and guests simply wanting a quiet reset away from busy hotel chains.
Having recently celebrated its first anniversary, the boutique lodge retreat has quickly built a reputation as one of Durham’s most unique places to stay, earning an impressive 9.9 guest rating on Booking.com and glowing reviews praising the lodges’ design, comfort and location.
Located in the picturesque village of Shincliffe, just minutes from Durham Cathedral and the city centre, the development was designed to offer something different to the traditional hotel experience.
Built using recycled shipping containers and transformed into contemporary luxury accommodation, the lodges combine sustainability with high-end finishes, floor-to-ceiling glazing and countryside views.
