Complement Genomics Ltd is pleased to announce a new prenatal paternity testing service which operates from its state of the art laboratories in Lanchester, Co. Durham.
This innovative service provides a reliable and non-invasive method to determine paternity around 10 weeks into the pregnancy. The mum provides a small blood sample, to be taken by one of our trained Northeast based phlebotomists and which contains cells containing mums’ DNA, but also DNA from the unborn child. This is called cell free foetal DNA and circulates in the mum’s bloodstream, increasing in amount as the baby grows. Generally, at 10 weeks there is enough foetal DNA for us to isolate this DNA and perform a paternity test. The alleged father provides a cheek swab, as he would do for a standard paternity test.
The service is now available to the general public via ThatDNACompany.com and for professional (local authority) use, via dadcheckgold.com, both of which are brands of the Complement Genomics Ltd. In the case of the former, the establishment of paternity before birth of the child can help pre-planning for a child’s welfare in terms of custody, maintenance and bonding for both the parents and family. The data also helps with timely decision making on behalf of the child, especially if legal proceedings are involved.
Complement Genomics has been trading in the Northeast for 25 years and relocated from the BIC in Sunderland to create state of the art laboratories in Lanchester, County Durham in 2014. Besides paternity testing or more broadly, human identity testing, the company also supports an international base of contract research organisations in clinical trials by providing DNA and biomarker information.
