County Durham apprentices take top honours at national skills competition

A heritage-inspired showcase has earned top national honours for a team of County Durham apprentices.


The painting and decorating apprentices from New College Durham won the Judges’ Award at the City & Guilds Apprenticeship Showcase Challenge, part of National Apprenticeship Week 2026.


The apprentices designed and built a heritage structure using only traditional hand tools and methods.
