Crook, Stanley and Peterlee to get investment plans

Residents in Crook, Tow Law, Peterlee and Stanley are being invited to have their say on new visions for their areas.

As part of the Pride in Place programme, Durham County Council is developing investment plans for the Crook North and Tow Law, Peterlee East, and Stanley South areas.

These three areas were selected by Government to be part of the Pride in Place programme, which will see £20 million awarded to each place for regeneration over the next ten years.

As part of this process, the council has launched an engagement exercise to gather residents’ views on how this funding should be spent.

For the next two weeks, the council is looking to hear what the priorities should be for each place, which will help the authority develop a draft vision and investment plan to submit to Government for approval.

Cllr Karen Allison, Durham County Council’s Cabinet member for leisure, tourism, regeneration and high street, said: “We want to use the Pride in Place programme to deliver real improvements that matter most to local people.

“The plans we develop for each of the Pride in Place areas will be shaped directly by the residents, businesses and community groups that live and work in them.

“Communities will be able to spend the funding on what matters most to them - from improvements to pavements and high streets to investing in culture and green spaces.

“That’s why it’s really important that people engage with this consultation and tell us what they want to see from the investment.”

The draft visions for the Pride in Place programme will complement the Crook, Peterlee and Stanley Strategic Place Plans (SPP) which are also being developed as part of a countywide SPP programme.

Residents living in the Crook North and Tow Law, Peterlee East, and Stanley South areas are encouraged to give their views on the Pride in Place draft visions by Sunday 8 November.
