Local housebuilder, David Wilson Homes North East, is returning to Durham, with a brand new energy-efficient housing development that is due to launch in Spring 2025.
Located in Gilesgate, Durham, work has already begun on The Oval at Durham Gate, which has been aptly named due to the design of the development’s entranceway, which features a spacious, green, oval-shaped garden space.
Designed to offer a selection of luxurious energy-efficient homes, David Wilson Homes will be featuring 87 new properties in a mixture of house types. This will include a selection of two bedroom homes, to help local residents step onto the property ladder, as well as three and four bedroom designed for families.
The two Show Homes coming soon will demonstrate the quality and variety of the homes available to residents. These will include the Woodlark and the Skylark house types, both of which are four-bedroom house types designed to offer accessible and adaptable home living. Due to launch in Spring 2025, interested residents will be able to book a viewing and get a feel for the homes that will be available.
The development, which is located off Benthouse Lane, has contributed £1.2 million to the area via S106 contributions, which is going towards the improvement of healthcare and education institutions, outdoor recreation and community spaces for residents in the area. A contribution of £642,175 is being made to upgrade secondary school capacity and £371,449 for primary school capacity. An additional £109,345 will be made by the 5-star housebuilder for open spaces and recreation facilities, as well as £12,394 for the maintenance and upgrading of footpaths. Healthcare facilities will be improved with a £113,505 contribution and the nearby Laburnum Avenue Community Centre will see £23,500 for improvements.
The new development follows the success of Barratt Homes’ sister site, Old Durham Gate, which launched to the public earlier this year.
To offer a helping hand for interested buyers, Barratt and David Wilson Homes offers different schemes for customers to take advantage of. This includes:
Part Exchange Scheme, to alleviate the stress of selling your existing home by securing Barratt Homes as the guaranteed buyer.
Recently extended Key Worker Deposit Contribution Scheme, offering key workers £1,000 as a deposit contribution for every £20,000 of a home’s purchase price.
Own New Rate Reducer, which makes lower-rate mortgages available on some new properties
Shared Ownership with Home Reach, where buyers can purchase a 50-75% share and pay a low monthly rent on the remaining shares.
Ashlea Wright, Sales Manager at Old Durham Gate for both Baratt and David Wilson Homes, commented: “We’re so excited to bring back David Wilson Homes to Durham with The Oval to Old Durham Gate. It’s been fantastic watching the community grow for Barratt Homes since its launch last year, and the new addition of David Wilson Homes will really demonstrate the fantastic variety that we have to offer interested homeowners, whatever their preferences may be.
“We encourage anybody who may be interested to visit our Sales Office for more information, or to visit the new website.”
Less than two miles from the historic city, homes at Old Durham Gate will offer beautiful walks along the River Wear, surrounded by scenic views. The new homes have been crafted with flexible living in mind, to encourage prospective customers, such as first time buyers and growing families, to create their dream home. The development will also benefit from a fantastic range of local amenities such as shops, cafes, restaurants and OFSTED-rated ‘Good’ schools.
