A County Durham café is celebrating a standout achievement after being named Best Café in County Durham at the England Business Awards, marking another milestone in its continued success story.
Quarry Tea House received the accolade at the County Durham and Newcastle ceremony, held at the Hilton Newcastle Gateshead on Sunday 22 March 2026. The black-tie event brought together businesses from across the region to recognise excellence and innovation.
Owner Julie Bell and Head Chef Katie Butler were invited to the stage on the night to be presented with the award, representing the business in front of peers from across the region. They were joined at the event by co-owner Martin Bell and members of the wider team, who all shared in the celebrations.
Photographs from the evening capture the moment of success, with Julie and Martin proudly holding the framed award, alongside Julie and Katie, and a wider team photo highlighting the strong, close-knit group behind the business.

The latest win builds on an already impressive track record. In July 2022, the business was awarded Best Tea Room Tyne and Wear at the England Business Awards, before progressing to the national finals in Birmingham later that year, where it secured Best Tea Room across the UK.
Speaking after the event, Julie Bell said:
“We were absolutely not expecting this at all. It’s such an honour. A huge thank you goes to our amazing team and our customers who support us every single day. We’ll keep working hard to make everyone proud.”

The awards evening itself was described as a fantastic occasion, celebrating the strength of the local business community, with Quarry Tea House’s win standing out as a highlight of the night.
With this latest recognition, Quarry Tea House has now secured a place at the national finals of the England Business Awards, expected to take place in Birmingham later this year. The team is looking forward to representing County Durham on a national stage once again.
With multiple regional and national titles already under its belt, Quarry Tea House continues to go from strength to strength, reinforcing its reputation as one of County Durham’s leading independent cafés.
