A County Durham highways worker has been honoured after four decades of keeping roads safe through some of the region’s harshest winters.
Gary Lawson, 62, from Crook, has been named the first ever Gritter Driver of the Year at the national Grit and Glory awards.
The Durham County Council employee joined the authority in 1982 and has spent 40 years navigating snow and ice across the county’s road network.
