Katem Logistics Fuels Rising North East Motorsport Star as He Champions Youth Mental Health

Thomas Potter supporting Youth Talk on the British Touring Car grid, backed by Katem Logistics

County Durham-based racing driver Thomas Potter (T.Pot) is continuing to make waves in the world of motorsport - both on and off the track - as he proudly announces his support for Youth Talk, a campaign dedicated to promoting youth mental health awareness. At just 13 years old, Thomas is quickly becoming one of the North East’s most promising young talents, and he’s using his growing profile to support causes that matter.

Following a special invitation from Vertu Motors and EXCELR8 Motorsport, Thomas recently attended the British Touring Car Championship event at Oulton Park, where he took part in behind-the-scenes experiences that left a lasting impression. The weekend, which also marked his sister’s 18th birthday, saw both siblings take part in grid walks and access exclusive team areas, giving them a taste of life in top-level racing.

In a standout moment, Thomas was invited to stand in front of the car on the starting grid — a role traditionally held by grid girls — proudly holding the flag and representing the Youth Talk campaign in front of thousands of fans. It was a bold, symbolic moment that captured Thomas’s passion not just for motorsport, but for championing mental health awareness among his peers.

“Being on the grid, standing in front of the car, and knowing I was doing it for something bigger than myself — it was unforgettable,” said Thomas. “I want to show people that even in a high-performance, competitive environment like motorsport, it’s okay to talk about your mental health. There’s strength in that.”

The Oulton Park weekend also allowed Thomas to engage with sponsors and motorsport partners in the hospitality suite. During a live Q&A, he asked insightful questions about tyre strategy and team performance, impressing not only the EXCELR8 crew but also the attending sponsors and business figures. It was here he met Jim, who leads the Youth Talk campaign, and the two immediately connected over a shared passion for youth empowerment.

Thomas’s growing racing career is now being supported by County Durham-based Katem Logistics, who have recently come on board to help take his motorsport ambitions to the next level. Their backing comes at a crucial time, as Thomas prepares to step up from karting to car racing and compete in the prestigious Ginetta Junior Championship, part of the British GT calendar. This high-profile series sees him share the stage with brands such as Ferrari, Porsche, McLaren and Lamborghini, and is a recognised proving ground for future stars of British motorsport — including the likes of Lando Norris.

“We’re incredibly proud to support Thomas,” said a spokesperson from Katem Logistics. “He represents the best of what the North East has to offer – determination, humility, and ambition. His work with Youth Talk shows he’s mature beyond his years, and we’re excited to be part of his journey.”

Thomas, who lives and trains in County Durham, remains grounded by his roots. He regularly credits the support of his family, sponsors, and the regional motorsport community for helping him rise through the ranks. As he prepares for the next step in his racing career, he’s equally committed to raising awareness for youth mental health and using his platform to inspire other young people across the North East and beyond.

His story is a powerful reminder that motorsport isn’t just about speed – it’s about resilience, support, and making a difference where it matters most.
