A North East council has been recognised four times for its outstanding contribution to improving the health and wellbeing of residents.

Having been named as a finalist in seven ukactive Award categories, Durham County Council walked away with the winner’s trophies for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, Transformational Innovation and Marketing Campaign.

The authority was also named Outsanding Organisation of the Year.

In addition to winning, the council was a finalist in the categories:

• Regional Public Club/Centre of the Year (North of England)

• Workplace and Culture Initiative

• Physical Activity Hero

• Outstanding Leadership Team

Cllr Karen Allison, Durham County Council’s Cabinet member for leisure, tourism, regeneration and high street, said: “We are incredibly proud to have won these awards. This recognition reflects our ongoing commitment to innovation, investment and community-driven initiatives that support healthier, more active lifestyles across County Durham.

“Our success in these awards is testament to the incredible work of our teams, which deliver high-quality facilities and programmes to help residents live longer, healthier, more independent lives. We’re thrilled that our work to bring our leisure services together and ensure communities have opportunities to thrive has been recognised on the national stage.”

The ukactive Awards is one of the UK’s largest awards ceremonies for the fitness and physical activity sector.

The awards celebrate organisations and individuals that are driving innovation and impact in physical activity. This year’s awards attracted submissions from public and private leisure organisations across the UK.
