New music room a hit at West Rainton Primary School

A County Durham school has struck a high note after raising an impressive £25,000 to build a brand-new music room for its flourishing steel band.
Launched in 2023, the 20-strong band at West Rainton Primary School – the only one of its kind in the county – brings together pupils from Year 3 to Year 6 and has quickly become a standout feature of school life.
From community performances to a third successive appearance at the Durham Miners’ Gala next week, the band is not only entertaining audiences but also helping young players build confidence, creativity and strong teamwork skills.
