A pioneering charity has launched phase two of a £4.9m development to transform a County Durham farm into a visitor centre and employment hub for autistic people.

The North East Autism Society (NEAS) officially launched the ambitious project in November last year with the symbolic planting of a sapling from the felled Sycamore Gap tree at Hadrian’s Wall.

The planting marked the start of the groundworks on the development, which will feature a café, farm shop, cider press, retail outlets, specialist play areas, wildlife setting and petting zoo.
