North East battery firms to benefit from £180m innovation funding

North East start-ups and scale-ups are set to benefit from the government’s latest growth package.
The scheme supports battery innovation under the UK’s Modern Industrial Strategy and pledges £180 million for research and development through the Battery Innovation Programme, part of the £452 million Battery Innovation Programme.
Peter Kyle, the business secretary, said: "For too long, Britain’s most promising companies have had to look abroad for the backing they need to grow.
