Low Carbon Materials (LCM), a pioneering clean-tech firm based in County Durham, recently welcomed North East Mayor Kim McGuinness to its headquarters for an exclusive look at its cutting-edge work in sustainable construction.
During the visit, Mayor McGuinness toured LCM’s advanced manufacturing facilities and R&D labs, where she observed the production of the company’s carbon-negative aggregates, ACLA® and OSTO®. These innovative materials are helping to decarbonise the global construction industry and have already been used to build the UK’s first net-zero road.
LCM, an Earthshot Prize Finalist and a key business named in the North East Local Growth Plan, is committed to driving green job creation and supporting the region’s transition to a net-zero economy.
Mayor McGuinness praised the company’s achievements, saying:
“It was brilliant talking to the team at Low Carbon Materials who built the first Net Zero road in the country. It’s the sort of innovation that shows we’re leading the way in the North East.”
Dr. Natasha Boulding, CEO of LCM, added:
“It was an absolute pleasure to host Mayor McGuinness and share our vision for a net-zero future, built right here in the North East. We are immensely proud to not only develop world-leading products like ACLA but also to contribute to our local economy through high value green job creation.”
LCM continues to play a vital role in positioning County Durham and the wider North East as a hub for clean innovation and sustainable growth.
