Today’s Bishop Auckland and Shildon Business Network brought together a packed room of businesses, organisations and professionals at The McIntyre Centre for a morning of insight, opportunity and valuable connections.

Set within the beautifully restored former McIntyre’s shoe and leather shop, a building with nearly 150 years of history that has been transformed into a vibrant community and enterprise hub, the venue provided a fitting backdrop for an event defined by energy and collaboration. From the moment attendees arrived, there was a real buzz in the room, with lively conversations, warm introductions and a fantastic mix of businesses from across County Durham.

Attendees heard first from Anne-Marie Chiswell of Bishop Auckland College, who delivered a highly informative and thought-provoking talk on the current jobs market, the pace of change ahead, emerging skills gaps and the opportunities businesses should be preparing for. It was a timely session that sparked plenty of discussion and gave attendees valuable insight into the future of workforce development.

The second speaker, Alan Sanderson from Newcastle Building Society, shared a valuable update on pensions, savings, investments, and wider financial strategies, alongside the range of complementary support services available to businesses and charities. Practical, current and genuinely useful, the session gave attendees plenty to take away.

Together, the speakers brought exceptional value to the morning, while the event itself created space for businesses to connect, exchange ideas and uncover new opportunities.

From insightful discussion to practical support and high-quality networking, the event showcased exactly what makes the Bishop Auckland and Shildon Business Network such a valuable part of the County Durham business community. Friendly, collaborative and full of opportunity, it was a brilliant morning from start to finish.
