Site Managers from Bellway’s North East and Durham Divisions Recognised for Commitment to Quality

Three site managers working for Bellway's North East and Durham divisions have been recognised in the National House Building Council's (NHBC) 2026 Pride in the Job Quality Awards.

Representing Bellway North East are Bobby Atkinson at Western Grange in Killingworth and Dave Mcathey at Centurion Chase in Wallsend, while Bellway Durham's winner is Anthony Church at Hedworths Green at Lambton Park near Chester-le-Street.

Dave, 44, from South Shields, is celebrating his second consecutive Quality Award.

He said: “It feels fantastic to win for the second time. Last year I said I’d keep working hard, keep improving, and it’s paid off. It’s a real achievement and reflects the efforts of the whole team on site.”

Bobby, 32, also from South Shields, has worked with Bellway for more than three years and has been on site at Western Grange since construction began in 2024. This is the first Quality Award of his career.

He said: "When I heard about my Quality Award win, I couldn't believe it. It’s not an easy job, and being recognised for all the hard work feels good.

“I’ve put in long hours at this site – I’m the first one in and last one to leave – but I would do eight days a week if I could to make it a success. We have a great team who have the same work ethic and buy into what we want to achieve. It’s a lovely site too with lots of green land surrounding it. I’d be very happy to move in myself!

“We want to build good houses for the customers. When you see them arrive on move-in day, you appreciate that they might have spent their life savings on their new home. To know that we’ve done the best job we can for them is the real reward – though a Quality Award is a great bonus!”

Anthony Church, 37, from Newton Aycliffe, has received the third Quality Award of his career and his second successive award for Hedworths Green, after also achieving a Seal of Excellence in 2025.

Anthony said: “To pick up my third NHBC Quality Award, on the back of last year's Seal of Excellence, is a fantastic feeling.

“A site with this level of detail is always a challenge to execute and get it right first time, despite facing tough material shortages along the way, the full site team stepped up to the plate. It takes total buy-in from every single person on site to win an award like this, and this recognition is a direct reflection of their hard work and dedication.”

The awards, now in their 45th year, are among the housebuilding industry's most highly prized, with only 449 site managers selected from more than 7,500 inspected by the NHBC. Winners are assessed on every aspect of site management, including consistency, attention to detail, leadership, technical expertise and health and safety.

All three site managers will now progress to the Seal of Excellence and Regional Awards, which will be announced in the autumn.

Ben Singlewood, Head of Construction for Bellway North East, said: “Bobby and Dave have both shown absolute dedication to meeting the rigorous standards required by the NHBC judges and have also inspired their site teams to share the Pride in the Job ethos, which is vital to achieve this award.”

Daniel Ferguson, Head of Construction for Bellway Durham, said: “Huge congratulations to Anthony for winning a Pride in the Job Quality Award this year. Anthony has been part of helping to create a culture in which our construction teams consistently build homes they would be proud to call their own.

“As a company we have targeted the Pride in the Job Awards as part of our strategic focus on quality, with best practice and expertise shared across the business.”
