Plans for a new supermarket were praised for helping regenerate and attract more visitors to a County Durham town.
A planning application by retailer Farmfoods to build and open a new store in Consett was approved by Durham County Council’s planning committee on Thursday (November 28).
The new development will be built on vacant land at Ponds Court in partnership with local developer Project Genesis.
Angela Sterling, county councillor for Delves Lane, welcomed the plans to improve the site. “In my view, not only would this bring a lovely shopping amenity and jobs but it would finish off that whole area rather nicely,” she told the meeting. “It’s the only real bit that is still undeveloped.”
