The North East’s largest business organisation has urged the Government to take a range of measures that will boost the region’s economy and make it a better place in which to live.
The North East Chamber of Commerce has written to Chancellor Rachel Reeves ahead of the Budget on October 30 with a call for action on issues including transport, overseas trade, reducing child poverty and boosting skills.
Its submission includes a fresh call for the Government to commit to the re-opening of the Leamside rail line, as well as urging a “reset of the trading relationship with Europe”. Chamber members also want better funding for colleges in the region and have called for the business rates system to be reviewed.
