Protech Celebrates 10 Years of Protecting Data, Supporting Communities and Driving Sustainable IT Disposal

Since its founding, Protech has grown from a small, ambitious venture into a respected and established name in IT asset disposal (ITAD), delivering secure, sustainable, and forward-thinking solutions to organisations across the UK and beyond. 

Over the past ten years, the company has achieved significant milestones, expanding its capabilities, strengthening its team, and continually evolving to meet the demands of a rapidly changing technology landscape. During that time, Protech has securely processed over 150,000 devices, recycled more than 1,000 tonnes of IT equipment, and supported over 500 organisations across the UK, demonstrating its scale, reach, and commitment to secure, sustainable operations. 

At its heart, Protech remains a family-driven business. Built on shared values, hard work, and a clear vision, it reflects not just professional ambition, but a deep personal commitment to creating something meaningful and lasting. 

A key figure in Protech’s foundation was Steven Ward. His vision, determination, and work ethic were instrumental in establishing the business and shaping the standards it upholds today. Following his passing in 2024, his legacy continues to guide the company’s direction and culture. 

The company’s 10-year anniversary serves as both a celebration of its achievements and a tribute to the vision that helped make them possible. 

Reaching this milestone is a particularly significant moment for the team. 

“Every milestone we achieve carries real meaning,” said Brian Ward, Director at Protech. “We often reflect on how it would have been received with our dad still here, knowing how proud he would be of what Protech has become. This anniversary is especially important for that reason.” 

Today, Protech is led by directors Gary Ward and Brian Ward, who continue to build on the foundations established by their father, Steven Ward. Alongside them, CEO Ian Murphy has played a pivotal role in driving the company’s growth and development, helping to establish Protech as a trusted provider of secure, compliant, and environmentally responsible IT disposal services. 

The wider team also includes Key Account Manager Jonathan Ward, who continues the family’s involvement in the business, while retired director David Ward remains a valued source of advice and support, drawing on his years of experience and knowledge of the company’s journey. 

The company has also supported initiatives aimed at reducing digital poverty, helping ensure access to technology for individuals and communities who need it most. To date, Protech has redistributed over 5,000 devices to support digital inclusion, reinforcing its commitment to creating impact beyond its core services. 

This impact can be seen through partnerships with organisations supporting vulnerable individuals and communities across the region.

Their refurbishment and donation of mobile phones has helped hundreds of children and young people living with type 1 diabetes across the North East and North Cumbria to access the technology they need to effectively and efficiently manage their diabetes.
