Rail deal puts Leamside Line back on track

Plans to revive a mothballed rail route are back on track following a new transport agreement.

North East mayor Kim McGuinness has signed an agreement with Secretary of State for Transport Heidi Alexander to work together on delivering a new rail line for County Durham. 

The agreement follows confirmation that development work on the Leamside Line will progress alongside Northern Powerhouse Rail, paving the way for services connecting Newcastle via Darlington and Durham for the first time in decades.
