Devine Chemicals Celebrates 40th Anniversary

Devine Chemicals, an additives manufacturer and global distributor, has entered its 40th year in business stronger than ever.

Founded in 1986 by Jim and Eileen Devine, the company remains family owned with son Dan Devine as Managing Director and daughter Emma Harvey as Financial Director.

Devine Chemicals specialises in water-based chemistry and has designed a range of products to enhance the performance and sustainability of applications in a breadth of industries including the coatings, construction, agrochemicals and adhesives markets. Its cutting-edge portfolio of additives includes DeCAL - a range of additives, DeTOX - a range of titanium dioxide pigments; and DeLOUR - a series of pigments and dispersions. In addition, its building and construction division AptiCem offers dry mortar additives, admixtures, defoamers and lithium carbonate replacements.

Through extensive technical capabilities, the company provides a collaborative approach to projects and works closely with customers to design products that tackle complex industry challenges. This is supported by its technical centre based in Haslingden, UK.

In addition, it is also a UK distributor for global manufacturers, supplying primarily to the coatings and construction industries.

Having started in a small office in Consett, the company has recently relocated its UK headquarters to a facility, still based in Durham, five times the size. Which alongside its facilities in Europe, the US and its technical centre, is enabling the company to meet growing global demand for its products.

In recent years, to meet challenges in an industry centred around the cost of raw materials, the company has invested heavily in its technical capabilities, lab equipment and personnel to push the boundaries of product development. Following the recent office move, the company has plans to continue investing in activities that drive further innovation with the creation of new products.

Jim Devine commented: “I’m overjoyed that the company has reached this significant milestone, and it’s fantastic that it remains family owned and operated – under Dan and Emma’s guidance I know the company can continue to grow stronger and I’m excited to see what the future brings.
