Durham Business Growth Helps The Encore Group Unlock New Capacity and Growth

The Durham Business Growth (DBG) programme has supported The Encore Group in bringing a major warehouse facility back into full operation, enabling the company to expand capacity, improve efficiency, and explore new market opportunities.
The packaging and print specialist had been facing challenges after outgrowing its existing space. Although the company had access to a large automated warehouse, the system had been left non-operational after the original automation provider removed the control systems, leaving The Encore Group with a facility that could not function without significant redevelopment.
With guidance and grant funding from Durham Business Growth, The Encore Group was able to restore the warehouse’s automated crane system and bring a 10,000-pallet bay storage facility back online. This has allowed the company to make full use of its site, increase efficiency, and create new employment opportunities across its operations.
Gary Joyce, Financial Director at The Encore Group, said: “If another business was asking me whether they should apply for a similar grant with Durham Business Growth, I would say definitely. They were really supportive — if there was something on the application we hadn’t quite covered, or something they wanted us to present differently, they were on hand to give recommendations so we could get everything right.”
The project is one of several success stories supported through the Durham Business Growth programme, which helps County Durham companies access funding, expert advice, and tailored guidance to scale and thrive.
