Laser Innovation in the North East: How ISR Laser Is Transforming Maintenance Across Industries

ISR Laser was recently invited to carry out specialist trials at a UK Air Museum—an opportunity that provided rare access to historic aircraft, some of which are the last surviving examples of their kind.
During the work, a WW2-era aircraft underwent airframe cleaning using ISR’s laser technology.
Under traditional methods, this type of cleaning would require splitting the aircraft, a complex and invasive process. ISR’s laser system made this unnecessary. The technology was able to reach into areas normally inaccessible, including the seals of a long-range fuel tank. Inside, corrosion was discovered that had been developing for more than 70 years—but the laser was still able to safely restore the surface without causing any damage.
This project demonstrates how laser cleaning can reach places traditional approaches cannot, and highlights why ISR Laser is being trusted to work on priceless, irreplaceable heritage assets. Despite being relatively uncommon in industry, the effectiveness and safety of laser-based maintenance are increasingly clear.
Reducing Downtime and Increasing Safety
One of the major advantages of laser maintenance is the dramatic reduction in downtime. Because the process can be completed on-site, businesses do not need to remove equipment, shut down operations, or transport machinery off-site for cleaning.
This allows factories and facilities to carry out maintenance more safely and efficiently during breakdowns or scheduled shutdowns, without interrupting production.
Agriculture Leads the Adoption of ISR
The agricultural sector has been the first to adopt ISR’s vehicle-mounted, self-contained laser unit. Farmers have been using the system to maintain tractors after harvest and to prepare barns for the new lambing season—achieving these tasks at record speed and significantly lower cost.
What began in the local area has now spread through word of mouth, with ISR Laser’s work reaching as far as Dunfermline from its base in Sunderland.
Supporting North East Businesses Over Christmas
Over the Christmas period, ISR Laser is looking to support businesses across the North East that are planning seasonal shutdowns or require factory cleaning. Their laser-based approach offers a faster, cleaner and safer solution for industrial maintenance.
Companies seeking to minimise downtime and improve maintenance efficiency are encouraged to connect with ISR as they continue to expand their innovative services across the region.
