Maven helped us in terms of facilities by introductions into Business Durham, and also the funding opportunities here in County Durham, which really did help pull a package of measures together, which made the premises we're in today, Jade Business Park, that compelling proposition.

The Finance Durham Fund is a key part of Durham County Council’s strategy to promote economic growth across the region. Offering flexible financing options—including equity, debt, and mezzanine funding—the Fund provides packages ranging from £150,000 to £2 million. This support is available to both early-stage and established businesses that are based in, or planning to relocate to, County Durham.
One of the companies backed by Finance Durham is Power Roll, a leader in green energy innovation that is transforming the solar power industry. Its pioneering "microgrooves" technology enables solar power generation on nearly any surface worldwide, a cutting-edge solution poised to significantly boost global solar adoption and accelerate the transition to a net-zero future.
Power Roll is just one example of how local businesses are benefiting from the support provided by the Finance Durham Fund. Managed by Maven on behalf of Durham County Council and Business Durham, the Fund has been instrumental in fuelling Power Roll's growth. Maven’s initial investment enabled the establishment of Power Roll’s pilot manufacturing plant in County Durham, positioning the company to meet the demands of its expanding customer base in both the UK and international markets. Earlier this year, Maven provided additional funding to help Power Roll scale up operations and commence commercial production of its patented solar energy solutions.
In this video, Neil Spann, CEO of Power Roll, and Michael Dickens, Investment Manager at Maven, discuss the importance of collaboration in driving business growth and how a supportive investor can create the right platform for success.
